Dr. Sean O'Mara has spent more than three decades moving between law enforcement, emergency medicine, and concierge care for some of the world's most demanding clients. Along the way, he became one of the few physicians in the world focused specifically on visceral fat as a marker of long-term health. Dr. Sean O'Mara joined Sean Kelly on the Digital Social Hour to explain why that research matters and how it shapes his approach to preventive medicine.
The two compare notes on their own MRI results during the conversation, turning what could be a dry medical topic into a candid, personal look at what is actually happening beneath the surface of the body.
About Dr. Sean O'Mara
Dr. Sean O'Mara built an unusual path to medicine, working as a police officer before earning a law degree from Villanova and practicing as a criminal prosecutor in Philadelphia. He later trained as an emergency medicine physician in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, where he was named the Army's outstanding physician of the year in 2004.
In 2006, he founded Guardian 24/7, a concierge medical practice serving ultra-high-net-worth clients, which led him toward preventive medicine and a National Science Foundation-funded research focus on reversing chronic disease through visceral fat. He has since written about that work in his book, Growing Better Not Older.

Why This Conversation Matters
Dr. Sean O'Mara brings a background most physicians don't have — law enforcement, courtroom prosecution, battlefield medicine, and concierge care for high-profile clients — to a conversation about a health marker most people never think about. That mix of experience is exactly why his take on visceral fat and preventive health carries weight beyond the usual wellness talking points.
